Music production (composing, producing, and mix-mastering a song) is the one thing that always kept me away from releasing my songs. I tried working with other producers, but it was either too costly or I wasn’t quite satisfied with their work. So I knew I had to learn sound engineering if I wanted to release my music, proving its authenticity through both writing and production.
So recently, I joined a six-month sound engineering course provided by the Faculty of Music at Delhi University. But there’s a story to it… here we go.
I had decided back in January that this year would be the year I focused on production. I did my research and asked my Guruji to guide me. He told me about this advanced course at DU—he himself had graduated in music from there, so he was well acquainted with it.
I looked for it online, and based on last year’s admission dates, I assumed it would start in June. But somehow, this year the registration dates had shifted to February through March, and I was totally unaware of that.
I only realized in May—two classes had already been held.
I was shocked and panicked, thinking I had missed my chance. But I still took one chance and called the administration first thing in the morning. The administration madam on the line told me registrations were closed and the classes had begun. I explained my assumption based on last year’s schedule and requested her if something could be done because this was really, really important to me. She took her time, then asked me to come to the Faculty that very day.
I went, spoke to her, and she said I could be enrolled. They understood that students’ time is important and the course wouldn’t start again until next year. I assured her I would catch up on the two classes I missed. Luckily, there was a class that day, so I waited for the session and talked to the teacher who would be teaching me sound engineering. He asked me about myself and why I wanted to learn.
And just like that—I was registered and started my classes.
It’s only my first month, and I have a lot to learn.
Let’s see where this goes.
Wish you all the luck,Shivi!๐ค
